After studying at the acclaimed Guitar Gallery in Houston in the 1970s, Michael Kaminsky found his love of music and, specifically, the guitar. Michael has dedicated the past 40 years to music, and today he is an expert for instrument appraisals, consignments, and repairs, running his own business in Boston called Chestnut Hill String Instruments.

Michael recently shared his story with CoverWallet and his experience getting insurance for his business.

How did you first start your business? What made you want to start it?

I have been a fan of classical music and guitar since I was a young adult, and I studied classical guitar at the highly acclaimed Guitar Gallery in Houston, Texas in the late 1970s. It was there that I was exposed to innumerable examples of some of the finest Classical and Flamenco guitars ever made. Not only that, but during this time, I saw live performances of just about every notable Rock group that ever went onstage, and I also did my own performing.

I later went on to complete an intensive course of study in Lutherie/Repair of Stringed Instruments, which is the art, craft, and science of stringed musical instrument construction, and received my Journeyman’s Luthier Certificate. During my coursework, the instructor was amazed at my knowledge of Classical and Flamenco guitars, which were two instruments that always fascinated me.

For the past 40 years, I’ve been dedicated to music, and my love of guitar is what led me to found Chestnut Hill String Instruments. In my line of work, I handle consignments, appraisals, and repairs.

What’s one of your most popular services?

We provide a very thorough and accurate instrument valuation. Our Appraisals are exactly what people need for insurance purposes. The Appraisal is very important and protects owners’ investments by establishing the value of their instrument in today’s market. We can provide an appraisal for one instrument or an entire collection.

What types of customers do you work with?

I usually work local musicians of all types, but I have done many appraisals for customers across the country as well as Great Britain. I market services for several guitar makers, as well as several other instruments.

How did you learn of CoverWallet? What's your experience been like with CoverWallet?

I came across CoverWallet just by searching on the internet. It has been excellent thus far! Thanks so much for a reasonable rate!
